Huddersfield Town 1-0 Yeovil Town

Well, this doesn't happen all that often it has to be said - a Town win on the opening day. It was very well deserved, and we will come up against worse teams than Yeovil - looking good (been warned by my husband about getting carried away after one result)!

A lovely sunny day, perfect for football (and numerous drinks breaks), the pitch looking in fine fettle even though the egg chasers have been traipsing all over it for the last few months.

Firstly though, a disappointment. I was looking forward to seeing Danny Cadarmarteri, weigh up if he was any good (some tell me) or unfit (others have said), but he took a knock in training and was not even in the squad - shame that, wanted an early chance to evaluate him, still, he will be back.

Town started well, easily on top. Danny Schofield (who ran his socks off all game long) was up front with Luke Beckett, and it was a combination of the two that made Towns goal. The ball stubbornly refused to go out for a throw down by the corner flag, Chris Brandon picked it up, played it back to Scoffer who swung in a lovely cross - Beckett rising highest headed confidently home. A richly deserved lead. More joy was to follow, when word reached us that Leeds were losing at Tranmere (got as big a cheer as the goal near enough).

Second half was a little more equal - Yeovil had the best chance when Lloyd Owusu should have scored, only for the poor Yeovil forward to stub his toe into the Galpharm turf and the ball to trickle 6 inches to a grateful Matt Glennon.

Chris Brandon received a standing ovation for his contribution - I was beginning to think I would never see him in a Town shirt again, but glad he stayed, as he was outstanding today.

Yeovil threw everything they could, but Messers Mirfin and Clarke (N) managed to clear the lines, and victory was ours.

As I said before, we will meet worse sides than the one we met today, and to that end I predict a far better season that the last one - we will be contenders (getting carried away again, I know).
