From the not-too-surprising-news file.

Danny Schofield - Time To Move On

Suspect he's feeling a tad stale at Town, and for what it is worth, probably the right decision. Has been at the club years, owes us nothing and is still young enough to do a good job elsewhere at this level. Best wishes to Scoffer.

Some news that has had my heart throbbing and, had I not been in work when I saw this on Sky Sports News, probably had me shedding a quiet tear also.

No sooner as he is back, Jon Worthington is struck down by injury again.

Worthy In New Setback

Monday, February 25, 2008

Been trying to find out when I can next make it to a game - with no success so far. Turns out my next scheduelled Saturday would clash with the Grand National, so not sure whether that means I will have to wait an extra week for the time off, or have it brought forward instead (I cannot imagine they will permit anyone time off that weekend). For what it's worth, Town are at home on April 5th against Doncaster, so if the impossible happens I will be there, if I have to wait an extra week I will be at the Port Vale match (might try and get that weekend off anyway, or call in a favour). The weekend before would be a trip to Oldham, and I would probably go to that one. See what I can sort out.

*****

Ex-Town players scoring for other clubs is not a new concept, and happens on a regular basis (GTF got 2 for Blackpool at weekend), however it was Mark Hudsons goal for Rotherham that caught my eye - it came against Lincoln of all teams, 12 months after a certain P Jackson cast our former number 4 on the Town scrapheap. Suspect Huddy got a fair bit of satisfaction for that one!!!

Gillingham 1-0 Huddersfield Town

We've been robbed. Some dubious refereeing late on handed Gillingham victory; Nathan Clarke purportedly shoulder-charged Delroy Facey (you might know), a challenge deemed "...a straightforward defensive manouvre..." by Paul Ogden, and had Kieran O'Regan saying he did not think it would have been given had it been at the other end of the pitch. Adam Miller scored from the spot while the Town players were still complaining.

Rob Page limped off in the second half, Town fans everywhere praying ti isn't too serious (will try to find out)

Chances for Town from Phil Jevons, Andy Holdsworth and Andy Booth, but all in all a scrappy affair devoid of much incident before the penalty.

The referee was in the thick of it again near the end - Michael Collins clearly fouled, grabbed the ball - only for the official to give handball instead of a Town free kick ("...he's lost the plot now.." KO'R).

Disapointed, but now we can look to "..mad March.." (P Ogden), with matches every Tuesday as well as all the Saturdays, with some hope.

half time - Gillingham 0-0 Town

Jon Worthington is back, and booked as well (no surprise there). Town having the better of this, Jevons and Beckett with chances. Still think we will win this.

Paul Ogden informs me that we haven't won at Gillingham in almost 20 years!!! Charming - lets hope we can put that right this afternoon!!!!

A long trip for the faithful followers, all the way down to Gillingham. I expect us to avenge our defeat at their hands recently, (that was pre Rob Page lest we forget). 3 more points, fingers crossed!

Good move this. Needs the games to get to full fitness after well over 12 months out, nice work Town.

AR - Don't Rule Out Playoffs

AR Interview (audio)

Leeds have been given an allocation of 3000 tickets for our match on Easter Tuesday night, and all have already gone. Suspect we may get some of their supporters infiltrating the home enclosures, hope this doesn't lead to trouble (vandilising Harold Wilson in a tit-for-tat measure is unlikely to happen).

Huddersfield Town 1-0 Millwall

A freezing, foggy night at the Galpharm, in front of just 6326 spectators, saw Town take the spoils. Luke Becketts first half penalty in a largely uneventful match the difference.

Millwall had the early chances, Matty Glennon needing to be alert as early as the first minute, but to no avail for the visitors.

Towns goal came in the 29th minute, Luke Beckett fouled just inside the box, and it was he who slotted away the resultant spot kick with aplomb. Town were unlucky not to get another penalty shortly after, the referee missing a handball that Oggy and Kieran spotted (despite the fog) from the commontary box.

Millwall failed to take their chances, and 1-0 it remained. 3 points we may be thankful of come May (you never know), the only real positive being the clean sheet. Town now 13th, Gillingham next stop Saturday.

AR on Town v Millwall (written)

Half Time: Town 1-0 Millwall

The fog is bad, the football not great, but Town are in front from Luke Becketts 29th minute penalty. Town unlucky not to have another penalty shortly after, the ref missing a handball. Millwall had the early chances, Matt Glennon called into action a couple of times. Oggy and Kieran have worked the hardest tonight, peering through the fog trying to recognise whose on the ball!!

Back to league action tonight against Millwall. I did consider travelling over as I am off all this week, but thanks to:

1. Trains coming home being a pain (long waits before and between connections), despite getting there no problem and in plenty of time.

2. Sams thoughts on the subject "...they've give out minus f****** 12 you daft bat..."

So that is that, a night in with Paul Ogden istead.

Should be 3 points with any luck. Andy Ritchie, however, is expecting a battle.

In other news, Danny Cadamarteri is finally on the comeback trail.

Chelsea 3-1 Huddersfield Town

So near, yet so far. Nearly, but not quite. For the amount of possession that Chelsea had in the main, a fair reflection. Chelsea, with not too many regulars to be seen predictably, were just too much for us. The Town players have done themselves proud regardless.

Frank Lampard opened the scoring in the 18th minute, deserved as well as we didn't really create anything of note. Chelsea were comfortable in the main no question. Then, a moment to remember. James Berrett played Michael Collins in and he scored with a close range effort in the dying moments of half-time - dream time!!!

It wasn't to be though, that man Lampard again put Chelsea in front on the hour mark, Soloman Kalou 10 minutes later making the tie safe. Still the 6000 Town fans sang and cheered, putting the host supporters to shame (I could hear them well).

Chelsea are quality - end of - they are light leagues away form us in footballing terms. But I am proud, the lads should be proud, this wasn't a thrashing, this isn't a disgrace. It was a wonderful occasion, Town have made a nice bit of money, we can still hold our heads high.

Now back to the bump'n'grind of League One - Millwall Tuesday!

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!

Half time: Chelsea 1-1 Town

Unbeleivable. Been nearly all one way traffic, (Lampard with Chelseas goal 18 minutes), nearest we got was Nathan Clarkes effort off the line from a corner - that was until stoppage time, Michael Collins played through and made no mistake with his effort (already seen the goal courtesy of one of those foreign live-stream websites).

I am absolutely jubilant. Can we keep this up??? 45 minutes time we will find out........

The team news is in - 4-5-1 time. Luke Beckett upfront on his own. Chrissie B is playing too (yay), but Jon Worthington is not playing (injured).

I'm here, glass of cider, snacks a plenty, chilling out, listening to Oggy. Hoping to God we are not humilliated, don't think it'll happen, maybe my dream can happen who knows. Bring it on.........

The big day is here, and if the weather is as nice down there as it is up here than it should be a good day for one and all. I have let my betting head get the better of me today - had £1 on Jevons to score first and Town to win 1-0 @ 283-1. Got visions of tomorrows headlines:

...GOOD JEVONS ABOVE...
Picture of a suitably embarressed Avram Grant as our Phil heads home the winner..... I can only dream of such an outcome!!!
COME ON TOWN!!!!!!!

After yesterdays wretched news, the excitement of tomorrow is starting to kick in with avengence. I'm even dreaming of victory (I must be mental). Have to include this interview with Chris Brandon from The Sun.

Chris Brandon Interview

I hope he starts tomorrow, might have my betting head on tomorrow just incase of a shock (don't tell my husband). AR was on Sky Sports News (my sister tells me, as I haven't seen it - she has Sky+ed it for me she says, and Luke was jumping excitedly round the living room because he saw the Galpharm on TV). Can we pull off the biggest shock in FA Cup living memory? ("...no f****** chance..." says Sam predictibly). You just never know.

Jacko has a message for all the fans who are wishing him well.

If love and good wishes were any sort of medicine he would be cured already. Have sent him an email wishing him well. Mentioned that hopefully Town and Lincoln will sort a pre-season friendly out, would have to be there for that one, would be great to see him.

I had hoped to start the countdown to Chelsea in buoyant mood, but not to be. Todays awful news (albeit something roumered since before Christmas) puts football second. My heart goes out to PJ and his family, he will beat this I just know it. It may be a long fight, but one I know he will win. I have a very heavy heart today.

Carlisle United 2-1 Huddersfield Town

Don't really think it is much of a disgrace, losing to a team who have won their last 10 games on the trot at home. More worrying is the fact both goals were conceded from corners - something I thought we had eradicated.

The first goal we conceded since Rob Pages arrival was in the 21st minute, a corner flicked on and Danny Livesey slotted it away. Town did create chances of their own, Andy Booth (playing instead of an injured Luke Beckett) and Michael Collins going close.

Carlisle pretty much wrapped the points up in the second half, again from a set piece. Town failing to clear a near post corner, and Danny Graham volleying home from close range.

Town weren't quite done however, when Rob Page pulled one back with an excellent volley (after being sent up front by AR) in the 86th minute, but it was not to be. Our first defeat of February.

AR is disappointed.

AR on Carlisle v Town

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Well, can we do it? A fifth clean sheet - we will soon see, as we make a trip up to Carlisle. Stuck in work for this one (bah), will find some way of following the action though!! I would settle for a point tonight (a postponent would have been even better, giving us an uninteruppted run before Saturday). We shall see!

Huddersfield Town 1-0 Swindon Town

A goal after 43 seconds by Phil Jevons was enough to secure 3 points, and a 4th successive clean sheet in all competitions. Andy Holdsworths free kick was headed into hias path by a Swindon defender, and Jevons made no mistake with his 6th goal in Town colours. (Statisticians are now frantically trying to find out wether M Glennon has gone this long without conceding a goal in his entire career).

Neither said created much goal threat after that, Luke Beckett with the best chance to make the points safe, his second half shot going wide.

Rob Page was unflappable yet again, and Frank Sinclair had a good game. Lets hope this good form continues away at Carlisle on Tuesday - I'm trying not to think about next Saturday too much yet..............

Our allocation for Chelsea has sold out.

6000 Tickets Gone

I didn't think we would sell out that quickly, seeing as most went two years ago. Mind you, this is round 5 on this occasion, and Chelsea are not the team they were (I keep kidding myself). Why shouldn't we have a chance!

In other news, Andy Holdsworth tells everyone what we knew already - our latest clean-sheet-fest is in no small part down to Robert Page.

It is 50 years ago today that the Munich Air disaster decimated probably the best club side this country had seen since the war. Of course, as I am married to a life long Manchester United fan, it is being felt keenly here.
RIP The Busby Babes and all who died that awful day. Gone, but never forgotten.

Just posted this on DATM, under a thread entitled "If You Could Ask AR a Question":

Julie: "What are Mr Davys ambitious plans, any idea?"

Andy: "Search me if I know."

Julie: "Surely you must have some idea, he is your boss after all."

Andy: "I haven't the foggiest, ask me another."

Julie: "Ok then, leaning on the dugout has become a bit of a trademark for you, did you model this stance with anyone else in mind?"

Andy: "There is no truth in the rumour that I learnt all I know from a book called 'The Wadsworthian Guide To Management."

Arise Sir Robert!

Yeovil Town 0-2 Huddersfield Town

...and good value for that as well - could have been six if we had wanted it to be, we played that well by all accounts. Rob Page outstanding yet again (what a signing, who do I write to to nominate him for a knighthood, The Queen or Gordon Brown), marshalling the defence (bringing the best out of Nathan Clarke) and the catalyst for a third clean sheet in 7 days.

As well organised Yeovil were, we were too good for them. In front from the penalty spot after the 23rd minute, Yeovil captain Terry Skiverton handling a Robbie Williams corner - Luke Beckett doing the honours (AR did not want Phil Jevons to take it because of the pressure attached), sending the Yeovil keeper the wrong way.

The three points were wrapped up in the 51st minute, Luke Becketts precise ball finding Michael Collins, whose shot went through the keepers legs giving him his first goal in about 9 months!!

Been a while since we went 3 games without conceding a goal, and it is no coincedence that it has happened since Rob Page joined us. What a signing. Man of the match yet again, immense.

Look out Chelsea.............

Saturday, February 2, 2008

Well, it seems the worst of the weather has avoided Somerset, so the match is definately on. I don't expect the drubbing we received down there last season, Yeovil are not as good a side as they were, not won a game this year I gather. Should be a league double for us. Way we have been playing the last couple of games we should go there brim full of confidence - but this is Town we are talking about.........

(Narrow win for us I say).

Phil Jevons returns to a familiar haunt tomorrow.

Jevons Looks Forward To Yeovil Return

Lets hope for more of the same from Tuesday from him, he's due a goal or two more. Rob Page is already halfway to sainthood at the moment after two consecutive man-of-the-match performances, so thats the defence sorted, now with Jevo and either Boothy or Luke up front that could be the forward line sorted - is this seasson about to turn for the better.............
