So near, yet so far. Nearly, but not quite. For the amount of possession that Chelsea had in the main, a fair reflection. Chelsea, with not too many regulars to be seen predictably, were just too much for us. The Town players have done themselves proud regardless.
Frank Lampard opened the scoring in the 18th minute, deserved as well as we didn't really create anything of note. Chelsea were comfortable in the main no question. Then, a moment to remember. James Berrett played Michael Collins in and he scored with a close range effort in the dying moments of half-time - dream time!!!
It wasn't to be though, that man Lampard again put Chelsea in front on the hour mark, Soloman Kalou 10 minutes later making the tie safe. Still the 6000 Town fans sang and cheered, putting the host supporters to shame (I could hear them well).
Chelsea are quality - end of - they are light leagues away form us in footballing terms. But I am proud, the lads should be proud, this wasn't a thrashing, this isn't a disgrace. It was a wonderful occasion, Town have made a nice bit of money, we can still hold our heads high.
